Every Reason to Clap Back… No Reason To.

Every Reason to Clap Back… No Reason To.

Have you ever done something for somebody — showed up for them, supported them — but when it was your turn to ask for something small, they didn’t show up for you? Maybe they even treated you wrong in return. That’s a tough feeling.

That’s exactly where David found himself in 1 Samuel 25. He had protected Nabal’s men, kept them safe, and never once took advantage of him. But when David asked for food, Nabal insulted him. In verse 21 David says: “It’s been useless — I took care of this man’s property, nothing was missing, and he has paid me back evil for good.”

The Human Side

If we’re honest, we’ve all been there. That moment when the “get-back attitude” rises up — “If you didn’t do it for me, I won’t do it for you.” That’s exactly where David was: ready to strap up, ready to clap back.

The Abigail Factor

But thank God for Abigail. She stepped in with wisdom and said, “David, don’t stoop to his level. Don’t let his foolishness make you act foolish too.”

We all need an Abigail in our lives — someone who will remind us not to repay evil with evil. To keep doing good. To stay in character. To not let anger drive our decisions.

The problem is, sometimes we surround ourselves with people who feed our anger instead of speaking to our destiny. We don’t need a crowd that encourages our clapbacks — we need an Abigail who points us back to God’s way.

God’s Perspective

Here’s the thing: God sees your heart. He knows the good you’ve done, even when people don’t repay you. He sees the whole picture. And when you let Him handle it, He will.

Romans 12:19 reminds us: “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord.” You don’t have to clap back. God’s already got it covered.

The Takeaway

Don’t let the way others treat you pull you out of character. Don’t stop being who God called you to be. You’ve done your part — now let God do His.

At the end of the day, blessings belong to the faithful, and vengeance belongs to the Lord. So let’s declare it today: No more clapbacks.
